Who Protects Your Vote: A Conversation with the People on the Front Lines Presented Sept. 24, 2026 at the Pine Community Center With the November 3 election approaching, many voters have questions about the security of our elections: What happens if election results are challenged? What safeguards protect our ballots? Who is watching for problems? And what actually happens inside your polling place to make sure every eligible voter can cast a ballot and have it counted? Attendees heard from and talked with people who know our election system from the inside-out. Our panel included an experienced poll worker, a representative from the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh, and Allegheny County’s Election Protection representative. We learned how elections have changed throughout our nation's history, how election officials and voting-rights advocates are preparing for November, the safeguards in place at polling locations, things voters should be aware of at polling places, and how to report concerns.
