When Your Growth Leaves The Building

In this episode, I explore a critical question for any business that wants sustainable growth: What happens to your growth capability when the people responsible for creating it leave? I look at the risks of what I call individual-dependent growth — where growth relies heavily on a Rainmaker, a highly connected relationship builder, a founder or a senior producer. These people can be exceptional at creating growth, but when their knowledge, relationships and behaviours exist primarily in their heads, the organisation becomes vulnerable. The real challenge is to turn individual excellence into organisational capability — capturing what your best people do and embedding those behaviours into the systems, processes, tools and culture of the business.
