Atlanta Master Chorale | O Sacrum Convivium (Messiaen)

Atlanta Master Chorale performed Messiaen's O Sacrum Convivium at our Masterworks Concert on March 14, 2015 at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts on the campus of Emory University. Conductor: Dr. Eric Nelson O Sacrum Convivium is a Latin prose text honoring the Blessed Sacrament. It is included as an antiphon to the Magnificat in the vespers of the liturgical office on the feast of Corpus Christi. The text of the office is attributed with some probability to Saint Thomas Aquinas. Its sentiments express the profound affinity of the Eucharistic celebration, described as a banquet, to the Paschal mystery: "O sacred banquet at which Christ is consumed, the memory of his Passion is recalled, our souls are filled with grace, and the pledge of future glory is given to us." www.AtlantaMasterChorale.org Publication Credit: O Sacrum Convivium | Olivier Messiaen | 1937 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The official YouTube channel of the Atlanta Master Chorale | Our Mission: To inspire and enrich the lives of our community through the performance of inspirational choral music, to sing at the highest level of choral artistry, and to be a standard of excellence among performing arts organizations. -Visit our website: https://www.atlantamasterchorale.org/ Connect with us on Facebook:   / atlantamasterchorale   Follow us on Instagram:   / atlantamasterchorale   And subscribe to our YouTube channel to see our latest and future live performances.
