They drop over a total height of about 250 metres (820 ft). At 110 metres (360 ft), the upper falls, known as the Grand Reichenbach Fall, is by far the tallest segment and one of the highest waterfalls in the Alps. It is some 1.5 km south of the town of Meiringen, and 25 km east of Interlaken. The falls are made accessible by the Reichenbach Funicular. From the bottom of the fall, it will take almost 20 minutes to reach the top. It has three viewing platforms that offer a breathtaking view of the waterfall and Haslital. Hiking trails lead back to the Hasli Valley, for example to the Aare Gorge, or in the direction of Rosenlaui to the historic hotel and the Rosenlaui Glacier Gorge. You can combine this trip with a visit to the Aare Gorge. For Sherlock Holmes fans, this excursion is almost a must. It was here that the famous detective challenged his nemesis, Professor Moriaty, to a fight - the fierce scuffle ended with a fall into the depths.
