What happens after an Eclectus Parrot lays its eggs deep inside a rainforest tree? Follow the incredible life cycle of the Eclectus Parrot (Eclectus roratus), from 2 tiny eggs to a fully feathered young bird. The journey begins inside a natural tree cavity, where the female lays her eggs and carefully incubates them for around 28–30 days. When the chicks hatch, they are completely dependent on their mother for warmth, protection and food. As the chicks grow, their parents provide nourishment while their bodies slowly develop feathers, stronger legs and powerful wings. Week by week, the helpless hatchlings transform into curious young parrots preparing to leave their nest. After roughly 11–12 weeks, the young birds are ready to begin exploring life outside the nest. Their first flights mark the beginning of a new chapter as they learn to feed, fly, climb and survive in the rainforest. One of the most fascinating parts of this species is its extreme sexual dimorphism: adult males are brilliant green, while females are predominantly red and blue.
