The Day We Met Sometimes the most important people in our lives are the ones we never expected to meet. And sometimes a moment that seems completely insignificant at the time turns out to mean more than we could ever have imagined. This is one of the most personal and emotional songs I've written, inspired by a real friendship that began in Las Vegas when two strangers, one from Georgia and one from Florida, happened to cross paths because of their shared love for Elvis Presley. I saw a beautiful woman in a crowd and offered to take her picture, never imagining that such a simple little moment would become the beginning of a friendship that would mean so much to me. What I didn't know that night was that we were both going through difficult times in our lives. Over the months that followed, her friendship, kindness, and ability to make me smile became a source of encouragement during one of the darkest periods I've ever experienced. There was even a particularly difficult Thanksgiving night when remembering that friendship helped me find a reason to keep going and see another sunrise. The song also reflects something I've come to appreciate more and more over time. The woman I thought was so beautiful that night in Vegas turned out to have something far more beautiful than her appearance. Behind that smile was a heart, a strength, a kindness, and a person whose inner beauty I could never have recognized from a photograph. I don't know whether our meeting was coincidence, fate, or God placing two people in each other's lives at exactly the right time.
