Pakistan is currently experiencing a changing weather pattern, with a westerly weather system bringing rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds to several parts of the country. According to the latest Pakistan Meteorological Department information, rain activity has been reported in parts of the upper country, while Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan remain the main areas of weather activity. During the latest spell, scattered rain and thunderstorms have affected different areas of Punjab, including Faisalabad, Lahore, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and surrounding districts. Some areas may also experience strong winds, lightning and isolated hailstorms, so farmers should remain careful about standing crops, harvested produce, farm structures and agricultural machinery. The immediate weather system is expected to gradually weaken after October 7, but the weather will not remain completely settled. The Flood Forecasting Division has indicated that another weak westerly system may approach the upper parts of Pakistan from October 9, potentially producing scattered rain and thunderstorms in northern Punjab, upper KP, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and upper river catchments through October 13, with occasional gaps. For farmers, this changing weather can provide useful moisture for some upcoming crops, but excessive or untimely rainfall may also create problems for harvesting, drying and field preparation. Farmers should therefore monitor local conditions before irrigation, harvesting or sowing decisions, particularly where rain has already increased soil moisture. At present, the major rivers are reported to be flowing within normal ranges, although localized heavy rainfall can still create temporary waterlogging or drainage problems. In this video, we discuss the latest rain report, areas that have received rainfall, the expected weather pattern over the coming days and the possibility of another rain spell after October 9. The forecast is especially important for farmers planning wheat, berseem, gram and other Rabi crops, as well as those managing standing crops and harvesting operations.
