The Bermuda Triangle iceberg, from the stories everyone has heard down to the records almost nobody reads. Flight 19, the USS Cyclops, Star Tiger, the Witchcraft, the Bimini Road, the Carroll A. Deering, the Cotopaxi and El Faro: 16 stories, each checked against the records. Navy boards, Coast Guard reports, a British court inquiry, Lloyd's of London and the NTSB. In 1976, Steven Spielberg's script for Close Encounters put a real Bermuda Triangle ship in the middle of the Gobi Desert. By the time the scene reached the screen, the ship had a different name. The records put neither ship inside the Triangle. Every story gets one verdict: documented, partly true, never proven, invented, or not even in the Triangle. Where the record is thin or disputed, we say so.
