Kailash Manasarovar Yatra 2026 | Part 5: Yamadwar to Kailash West Face | First Darshan

We leave Darchen and head towards Yamadwar, with cold winds, drizzle and clouds still hiding Mount Kailash from us. Even after coming this far, the mountain itself had remained elusive. At Yamadwar, the journey takes on a much deeper meaning. We seek blessings before beginning the parikrama, experience local traditions around the horse allotment, and step through a place that spiritually marks the start of the path around Kailash. From there, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic — mist-covered peaks, streams running down the mountains, monks walking the route, Tibetan pilgrims performing full-body prostrations, and the slow realization that we are now truly on the Kailash trail. Along the way, we stop beneath a mountain formation that reminded us of Ganesh Ji, rest with our horses, and have a simple packed lunch. And then, after hours of waiting, the weather finally changes. The clouds begin to open, sunlight breaks through, and for the first time on this entire journey, we get a clear darshan of Mount Kailash — the West Face. That moment becomes the emotional end of this chapter.
