Welcome to today's video on Pocket Woodcraft! 🌿 Sit back, relax, and enjoy another soothing ASMR whittling session.
In this video, I’ll be hand-carving a delicate little crane (heron) from a single block of basswood, using almost exclusively a single whittling knife. At first glance, the sculpture features clean, minimalist lines without overwhelming detail. However, the real challenge lies in carving out the negative spaces and deep hollows around the slender neck and legs.
If you plan to try whittling this pattern yourself, my biggest piece of advice is to be patient and make very light, controlled cuts. Take your time shaping the neck and legs—never rush through these narrow sections so you maintain full blade control and keep the fragile wood from snapping (and always remember to wear your cut-resistant safety glove!).
Grab your favorite knife, relax, and let the gentle sounds of wood chips falling bring you a moment of calm. Let me know in the comments: what bird or wildlife project should I carve next?
Thank you so much for watching and supporting the channel! 🪵🔪
