#patrol #smuggling #southamerica Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil is home to the breathtaking Iguazu Falls, one of the seven wonders of the world. The nearby town attracts a steady flow of tourists who come to admire this unique natural scenery, but it also faces a high crime rate due to smuggling. On the Paraná River, the natural border between Brazil and Paraguay, steady trafficking thrives between the two countries and their contrasting economic realities. To combat smuggling, a special unit called NEPOM (Special Center of Maritime Police) has been created on the Brazilian side. In Guayaquil, Ecuador, a city with a larger population than the capital Quito and the country’s gateway to the ocean, smugglers find a golden opportunity to sell their products. Traditional fishermen, shrimp farmers, and members of the GIR (Ecuadorian task force) live side by side across the numerous streams.
