SECTION. presents Newa from Tbilisi. Newa is Ana Kublashvili, born and raised in Tbilisi in a house full of jazz. Her grandmother taught piano and led her own band, and Ana was singing, playing piano, drumming on stage from the age of six in a jazz band. Classical training took her into experimental production, and Datacide took her into techno. She started DJing in 2012, and when Bassiani opened in 2014 she was one of its first residents, a role she still holds. The productions carried her further: an early debut on Subspiele, records for Semantica and La Chinerie, a track on Klockworks 20 and then her own Klockworks 25 EP for Ben Klock, and the Equilibrium EP on Bassiani Records in 2024, written in lockdown. With fellow resident Kancheli she co-founded Shin Records, Georgian for home, and she now also holds a residency at BASEMENT in New York. Her sound is acid-tipped and hypnotic, low-end heavy and patient, techno that grips without ever needing to shout.
