1988 NLHS High School Football - New London vs Van Buren

Fall, 1988 - New London, Iowa New London high school football vs Van Buren The first home game of the season My dad taped this and watching it after 40 years puts me right back there on the track, between the bleachers and the football field. I can hear the crowd, smell the hot chocolate and popcorn, and feel the cold breeze coming in. I can't believe what good quality this was, for an 80s camcorder, especially considering he was sitting in the bleachers! You can see Mr. Proctor stressing, Mr. Gibson cheering, Mr. Coberly leading the band. All the guys on the team get their moment. (This was a very low-scoring game, so the defense and offense got equal time.) The cheerleaders were doing their thing, with Miss Duensing in the mascot outfit. And toward the final quarter, watch for glimpses of all the jr. high and high school kids crowding up to the sidelines to see the excitement. I'm only sorry that he didn't get the full routine of the marching band. Bless you for doing this, dad. I feel like you gave me a time machine. #NewLondonIowa #VanBurenIowa #IowaHighSchoolFootball #NLHS #1988 #80snostalgia #80s #SmallTownFootball
