Mansurah emerged as a major political and commercial center. Multan followed a very different political path. Islam gradually spread, while older religious and social traditions continued for generations. Over time, Arab political power itself became rooted in the local politics of Sindh. The Habbarid dynasty emerged in Mansurah and ruled for more than a century. Then came the Ghaznavids. The Habbarid political order disappeared, and a new chapter began. From this historical transition, another name would emerge in the later sources: The Soomras. But who were they? Where did they come from? And how did a new local political power emerge in Sindh after centuries of Arab rule? This documentary explores the three centuries between the conquest of Sindh and the rise of new local powers, using Arab and Persian historical sources, Chinese travelers' accounts, inscriptions, archaeological evidence, and modern historical research.
