The Czech language is careful in using vowels. We have many words in which consonants are dominant. And here’s good news: sometimes, Czech feels generous and adds an -e at the end of certain words - prepositions. This is called vocalization, and it’s a simple trick the Czech language uses to make pronunciation smoother.
There are quite a few prepositions ending in a consonant: v, s, z, k, od, but also nad or pod… To all of these, we can add -e in special circumstances. I'll tell you when.
What you’ll learn:
▪️The two main rules for vocalization (V, K, S, Z).
▪️How "challenging" consonant clusters trigger the extra "e".
▪️Why R and L are special (semivowels).
▪️Common phrases like "ve vlaku" or "ke škole".
