In 2019, Kawhi Leonard was the best player on the planet! And now that he’s officially back in Toronto, let’s revisit the Claw’s best moments as a Raptor. He taught the 76ers a few lessons way before they met in the playoffs. Next came the Bucks led by the MVP of that season, Giannis Antetokounmpo who had one helluva game of 43 points and 18 rebounds. However, Leonard still had the last laugh… The Cyborg was surgical on both ends of the floor, putting up 30 points and 5 steals in the head to head win over Giannis. The Raptors took the scalp of almost every NBA superstar that season. Kevin Durant got 51 in late November, but Kawhi and company were just better… Leonard was breathing in KD’s neck with 37 points of his own, securing the win for his team. Going on the road against Luka Doncic and the Mavs, no problem. Kawhi’s 33 points and 10 boards were just enough to outlast Luka’s 35 point triple double in a close win for the Raptors at the end. They were cruising through the season. And when the Lakers and LeBron came to town, Mr. Fun Guy was ready! Leonard did everything he needed for another comfortable win at the Scotiabank Arena. And if you needed some extra proof of Kawhi’s killer season, here are his 3 game winners all in a 10 day span. He iced the game against the Nets, putting the chery on top of another 30 point performance. A day later, he sent his former team packing with another clutch bucket, spoiling the home coming for Demar Derozan all in one motion. Leonard steals the ball from Derozan and finishes the Spurs with the easiest dunk of his career. And on 1st of March, Lillard and the Blazers faced the same cruel reality… Kawhi crowns his 38 point brilliant game by hitting the game winner over Dame Dolla. Unbelievable! He led the Raptors to a 58-24 record, good enough for the 2nd seed in the East. So, the expectations were super high in the entire country of Canada, buut… In the 1st round against the Orlando Magic, they shockingly lost game 1 by the hands of none other than DJ Augustin. This apparently made the Claw mad, as he dismantled the Magic in the next 4 games with 28.5 points per game on a remarkable 55/52/92 shooting splits. That’s insane! Next came that epic series against the Sixers and the game 7 buzzer beater that echoed across the world. This has to be one of the most famous buzzer beaters in NBA history. But people may have forgotten just how elite Kawhi was all throughout the series. Get this, he averaged 35 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists on 53% efficiency. I don’t think it can get any better than that… Against Giannis and the Bucks in the ECF, the Raptors fell 0-2 on the road, despite Leonard’s 31 points in both games. So, with their backs against the wall in game 3, he needed to dig deep if he wanted to save his team. He put Toronto up by 5 with little over a minute to play. But Eric Bledsoe and Khris Middleton kept the Bucks alive with a couple of late game heroics. Still, the Raptors had the last shot in regulation, but Siakam’s 3 failed to hit the target, pushing the game into overtime. There, we saw the same story. Kawhi gives his team a 4 point lead with a minute and a half remaining, but the game’s played until the final buzzer.
