Today, we are exploring three interesting Washington quarter dollars that collectors may want to check carefully: the 1983-P Washington Quarter, 1984-D Washington Quarter, and 1985-P Washington Quarter. Could one of these coins hiding in your pocket change be worth more than 25 cents? Watch until the end to learn what makes these coins interesting to collectors!
In this video, we take a closer look at three Washington quarter dollars from the United States of America. These coins carry important details about American coinage history, mint marks, designs, metal composition, and the condition of circulating coins. While most circulated examples are worth their face value, certain coins with exceptional preservation, genuine minting errors, or unusual characteristics may attract additional collector interest.
COIN NUMBER 1: 1983-P WASHINGTON QUARTER
The 1983-P Washington Quarter was produced at the Philadelphia Mint. The letter P represents the Philadelphia Mint and is located on the obverse, or front, of the coin. Examine George Washington's portrait, the date, the mint mark, and the overall condition. Because condition plays an important role in coin collecting, carefully preserved examples may be more desirable than heavily circulated coins.
COIN NUMBER 2: 1984-D WASHINGTON QUARTER
The 1984-D Washington Quarter was struck at the Denver Mint. Its D mint mark identifies its production location. Look closely at the coin's lettering, date, portrait, and reverse design. Check for unusual features that could indicate a genuine minting error, and remember that ordinary damage after a coin enters circulation is not the same as a mint error.
COIN NUMBER 3: 1985-P WASHINGTON QUARTER
The 1985-P Washington Quarter was produced at the Philadelphia Mint. Collectors should examine its surface, luster, scratches, wear, and overall preservation. A coin that appears shiny is not automatically rare or valuable, and cleaning a coin can reduce its collector appeal. Keep your coin in its original condition and compare it with reliable grading and auction references before estimating its value.
WASHINGTON QUARTER HISTORY AND IDENTIFICATION
The Washington quarter features a portrait of George Washington on the obverse and an eagle design on the reverse for these dates. These quarters belong to the copper-nickel clad era. They generally have a copper-nickel outer layer bonded to a copper core and a face value of 25 cents.
WHAT MAKES A QUARTER MORE VALUABLE?
Several factors can influence a coin's collector value:
Condition and grade: Coins with minimal wear and strong original details can be more desirable.
Minting errors: Genuine errors may attract collector interest depending on their type and rarity.
Mint mark and date: These details help identify where and when a coin was produced.
Original surfaces: Avoid polishing or cleaning coins, as this may damage their surfaces.
Verified market prices: Compare recent sales of coins with the same date, mint mark, and grade rather than relying on unsupported online price claims.
Please remember that claims of coins worth thousands or millions of dollars should always be supported by reliable evidence. The 1983-P, 1984-D, and 1985-P Washington quarters are not automatically rare or worth huge amounts simply because of their dates or mint marks. Their actual value depends on their condition, verified errors, and collector demand.
