Johnny Ringo remains one of Tombstone’s most famous gunfighters—but his mother’s will reveals a family story darker than the Hollywood legend.
In 1876, Mary Ringo divided her estate among her three daughters and left Johnny just one dollar. Years later, when he returned to San Jose after nearly a decade away, family recollections say his sisters would not let him enter the house where he had grown up. What happened between Ringo and the people closest to him?
Using family diaries, probate records, court filings, contemporary newspapers, and later recollections, this documentary follows Ringo from his father’s death on the emigrant trail through the Mason County War, Tombstone, his confrontation with Doc Holliday, and his mysterious final days at Turkey Creek.
Behind the feared outlaw was a man who kept outliving everyone who once stood beside him. The surviving records tell a story Hollywood largely ignored—and leave one question his mother never answered.
