The Scariest Horror Movies Ever Made Explained in 13 Minutes
In this video we're going through nine of the scariest horror films ever made and explaining exactly what happens in each one, why they work the way they do and what makes them stay with people long after the credits roll.
The films covered are The Wicker Man from 1973, The Exorcist from 1973, Audition from 1999, The Descent from 2005, Martyrs from 2008, Human Centipede 2 from 2011, Sinister from 2012, Hereditary from 2018 and Midsommar from 2019.
Some of these films were banned in multiple countries. Some caused people to faint or walk out of cinemas during early screenings. One of them was tested in a scientific study at the University of Westminster where 50 participants wore heart rate monitors while watching horror films and it came out as the scariest film ever measured based on actual body responses.
What connects all nine of these films is not the blood or the creatures or the jump scares. Every single one of them ends with a question the audience has to carry home with them. What did Anna see on the other side in Martyrs? Did the harvest actually work after Howie burned in The Wicker Man? Did Dani make the right choice at the end of Midsommar? These films were built without clean answers on purpose and that is exactly what makes them impossible to forget.
