I finally managed to get an incredible score. I'm unsure if 1 quintillion is possible in this mode. But I would love to see it happen one day. For now I am satisfied. Standard Zone focuses on Touhou fundamentals. Like other Zones your job is to increase base and rate. But with hyper out of the picture. It changes the dynamics of the game. You have to interact with the minute things that you would more or less ignore in other zones. A few examples: Stalling the multiplier gauge: the bar below the rate at the bottom right is important to stall. Because there is no hyper deactivation to tell you that you dropped the gauge. 800x multiplier milestone: a few major things change when you reach 800x multiplier. One is that rank stops dropping passively. The second is that graze cancels produce double the amount of items. So having the multiplier above 800x is essential. I actually reach 800x multiplier in the first half of stage 1 and stop collecting gold momentarily because the score is insignificant. Getting as many graze cancels is more important. Edge grazing: There are no i frames from hyper so by producing the rainbow circles you can graze aimed bullets from fairies outside the circle at the edge before they erase. It is a game changer in this Zone. Do master it and know when its applicable as it opens up more opportunities to increase base and rate.
