You ran the load again because it came out smelling like a damp basement, and in two weeks it will smell exactly the same. Or it was a sweater that came out half the size it went in. Sit down for a moment. Every one of those problems was written on a label you cut out on day one, or caused by a habit nobody ever told you was a habit. Not your machine. Not bad luck. Nine rules, and the last one explains all the others.
In this video:
The Pflegeetikett, the care label, and the three symbols that decide whether a sweater survives its next wash
Why laundry left in the drum for an afternoon has to be rewashed, and the dry-towel trick when it is only slightly damp
Fabric softener, and the three things it should never touch: towels, microfiber and workout clothes
Why underloading is as damaging as overstuffing, and the hand test that settles it in two seconds
Three temperatures instead of one permanent setting, and which load genuinely needs one hundred and forty
The monthly maintenance wash, the pump filter behind the small panel, and the grey film in your detergent drawer
Water hardness, the Wasserhärte table on German detergent boxes, and why a full cap is almost always too much
The closed door, the lower fold of the rubber seal, and where that black ring actually comes from
The one sorting failure underneath every problem above
Honest about a few things: vinegar softens without coating, but not on silk, and always check the care label first. Leave the machine door ajar for about half an hour after a wash rather than permanently, because the weight of an open door wears the hinges over time. And never exceed the temperature the label allows, however satisfying a hot wash sounds.
Tell me in the comments: what is the one laundry habit you have had the longest and only just found out was wrong? I am genuinely curious, and I read every one.
