Today was one of those days where things didn’t go as planned, but adapting on the fly is part of the job! The day started with me trying to loosen up a locked Bell & Gossett bearing assembly. No matter what I tried, it wouldn’t budge, so I had no choice but to replace it. If you’ve ever swapped one of these out, you know it’s no easy task. Next, I had to replace an inducer motor on a burner. Instead of making an extra trip, I took a risk and assumed we had one at the shop. Turns out… we didn’t. So, off to the supply house I went. Luckily, they had what I needed, and I got it installed. Finally, I returned to troubleshoot a control board that wasn’t working. That’s when I realized I had trusted the supply house’s info on a gas valve—and they were wrong. Another trip back to get the correct part, and finally, everything was up and running. The point is, in this trade, sometimes you have to take risks. But you should always take smart risks—double-check your work, verify information, and never blindly guess.
