1、Weightlifting competitions were known to have occurred in both the ancient Olympics as well as the traditional Scottish Highland Games. Weightlifting has been a part of the modern Olympic Games since 1896. Olympic weightlifting includes two different forms of competition at each of the weight categories, the snatch and the clean and jerk. All Olympic weightlifting is conducted using a bar that is loaded with the requisite weight to be attempted in the lift. Each event has a prescribed technique that the athlete must apply; each technique serves as proof that weightlifting is far more than an exercise in simple brute strength. 2、The first recorded Olympic wrestling match occurred in the Olympics in 708 BC. Wrestling was highly valued as a form of military exercise without weapons. Wrestling was integrated in the modern Olympic Games in 1904. There are two styles of wrestling, Free and Greco-Roman. Freestyle wrestling in different forms has been common all over the world for the past few thousand years. In 1860, the Greco-Roman style of wrestling was started in France. Legs are not used in the Greco Roman style of wrestling. A square mattress with each side measuring 12 metres is used for the wrestling matches.
