The Scooby Doo Episodes That Were Too Dark for Kids

Scooby-Doo was made for kids, but every now and then the series wandered into territory that was genuinely unsettling. The Scooby-Doo Episodes That Were Too Dark for Kids looks back at some of the franchise’s darkest stories — episodes filled with disturbing imagery, creepy locations, surprisingly serious threats and moments that felt far removed from the usual masked villain chasing Scooby and Shaggy down a hallway. Some were frightening because of the monsters. Others became darker because of what the story actually implied once you stopped and thought about it. From classic Scooby-Doo to some of the franchise’s more ambitious later stories, these are the episodes that made you wonder how much the writers could actually get away with in a kids’ cartoon.
