Learning to Burn: Students Lead the Way to a Better Relationship with Fire

Early experience with prescribed fire can shape the next generation of fire leaders—and the communities where they live. “Learning to Burn” introduces the Dobyns‑Bennett High School Pulaski Club, one of the nation’s only high‑school prescribed fire programs, as its members build their knowledge of fire and support controlled burns in and around Kingsport, Tennessee. Set in the Kingsport’s Bays Mountain Park, where students supported a high-profile controlled burn in 2025, the video explores how the Pulaski Club is changing the lives of its members, while also changing local perceptions of fire.
