More About This Project
I still remember the first time I played Crüe Ball on the Sega Genesis, hearing Mötley Crüe blasting through the YM2612 chip was unforgettable. That moment stuck with me and directly inspired this project. • Crue Ball on SEGA Genesis Review #2 - Retr...
I’ve been working with MIDI since the mid-90s, first learning on Cakewalk 3.0 after interning at a local recording studio founded by a good friend and musician known as Dr. MIDI. As technology evolved, I experimented with soundfonts on early hardware like the Sound Blaster Live and EMU 1812M.
These tracks are arranged and produced by me. No AI-generated audio, ever. I work from a mix of readily available MIDI files, sheet music I convert to MIDI, and my own massive collection that I have been compiling for many years. When parts are missing or incomplete, I play or record them myself. If a part is beyond my skill, I may use DAW tools like audio-to-MIDI drum replacement or, in some rare cases, AI as a drafting aid for the missing MIDI elements, then rework, perform and mix it by hand. For some videogame projects, I also extract or convert MIDI/VGM data directly from ROMs.
All tracks are arranged in my DAW (Sonar), with instruments assigned manually using chiptune style soundfonts (loaded via sforzando). I adjust mixing, panning, layering, and effects, then master each track before release. Videos are created using FL Studio.
These are official cover versions, so streaming revenue goes to the original rights-holders on YouTube and Spotify. Bandcamp pricing is kept intentionally low, this is a passion project fueled by my love of imagining classic albums as video-game soundtracks, or on systems they were never meant to exist on.
Thanks for listening!
