This webinar covers the correct design of wall-to-window connections in timber construction, with a focus on window installation, waterproofing and airtightness. Starting from the fundamentals, the session explains why airtightness matters not only for energy efficiency, but also for avoiding condensation risk, acoustic issues and durability problems.
The presentation then moves into practical window detailing: how to manage the three protection layers around openings, how to maintain continuity of the airtight, wind-tight and waterproofing layers, and how to avoid typical design mistakes such as thermal bridges and air leakage at corners. Different installation options are reviewed, including windows with and without subframes, various positioning strategies within the wall build-up, and detailing for window boxes and shading systems.
Real examples and common failure cases are used to show how poor detailing can lead to mould, reduced insulation performance and moisture-related damage.
