This one will break you.
It broke me.
Sometimes, through the topics I speak about, I am reminded exactly why I started *sincerelyULOMA* in the first place.
I needed an outlet.
These podcasts have become something of a dartboard for me. Or perhaps a punching bag. A place to throw the questions, frustrations and uncomfortable thoughts that refuse to leave my head, and hopefully get a few other people thinking too.
*The Way We Were* is one of those conversations.
I find myself increasingly fascinated, and disturbed, by the growing commodification of the human body.
Sperm can be donated. Eggs harvested. Wombs rented. Blood and plasma have economic value. Organs can become commodities. Genetic material can be screened, selected, stored and distributed.
Technology keeps expanding what is possible.
But *just because we CAN, does it mean we SHOULD?*
And what happens when technology creates consequences we never anticipated?
Consider **UNKNOWN KINSHIP**.
Two consenting adults could meet, fall in love and perhaps even have children, only to discover later that they share a biological parent through anonymous sperm or egg donation.
They knowingly violated no modern rule of consent or autonomy.
Yet they may have crossed one of humanity's oldest boundaries.
Modernity says:
"My body belongs to me."
Technology replies:
"Then look at everything we can do with it."
The market adds:
"And some of it has a price."
And I find myself asking: *At what point does the human being cease to be a person and become an inventory of useful parts?*
Sperm. Egg. Womb. Blood. Kidney. DNA.
This podcast isn't about having all the answers. I don't.
It is about asking whether, in our extraordinary pursuit of progress, autonomy and technological possibility, we may also be surrendering something ancient, precious and profoundly human.
Hence the title:
THE WAY WE WERE
And please, watch until the end.
I started out discussing an idea.
Somewhere along the way, the idea reached into my own heart.
And yes... I cried.
This one got me.😢
