This is one of the most extraordinary things that happens on this river as the seasons change. The water holds its summer warmth long after the air turns cold. And on a still autumn morning like this the steam rises off the surface in great drifting columns — ghostly, silent, completely beautiful. The island looks completely different to how it looked just a few weeks ago. The light is lower. The colours are changing. The river has a different mood entirely. Summer is gone. Autumn is here.
