BNSF National City Local Y-SDG1311 Chase on the BNSF San Diego Subdivision 7/8/2026

Here is a chase of the BNSF National City Local, Y-SDG1311. One of three jobs based out of BNSF's San Diego Yard, this job is responsible for switching all non-autorack mainline industries on the BNSF San Diego Subdivision. Today I chased it from start to finish on it's round trip to National City, where it would service it's busiest customer, CalPortland. Starting at the yard, the train was pre-built, with a consist of 3 loaded cement hoppers for CalPortland headed by two GP60M-3 engines. Once they departed, I relocated to National City, to watch them enter the yard ops zone, where they conducted a lengthy switching session to switch the three loaded hoppers for four that were spotted the day before. After this move, they headed back to the yard. Of the original transcon from the Santa Fe Railway, National City was and still is the westernmost terminus, with CalPortland being the furthest customer on the true mainline. Thanks for watching!
