Rock Jump | Light Wind Bay Run Tactics | KT Dragonfly 2 | Rocky Road

🤙 Join the Crew (Early Access & Perks):    / @downwind_drifter   Thank you to my members (The Fellow Drifters) and everyone watching for supporting the channel ❤️ ---------------------------------------- First run of the day A-b travel here from getting dropped off to reaching the destination. This is what a 3km downwind bay run with 6km of fetch to begin with and 11kts blowing can look like. If the wind was coming from offshore and at 11kts you can have quite an enjoyable run with the 1401, but really for me 12kts is where it becomes almost effortless. The concrete footpath down to this spot gets very slick and is quite dicy so take it easy. The socks over your shoes or feet method works well for gaining some grip. At this spot you can walk along the rocks upwind for an extra 500m but I’ve found it not to be worth it… youre better off launching at the stairs which is an easy spot to get in to the water and then paddling upwind if needed. Also there’s a fair bit of swell bounce reflecting off the rocks which makes things a bit interesting… it can be good for giving you some steep sections but also can be a bit washing machine like. I get into some riding beta on this run, mostly about trying to maximise your low end riding, keeping the foil flat in those moment to prolong your available time on foil. I’m often using a small rear foil to gain overall efficiency but I do find a larger rear can add more scope to your low end riding. It’s less efficient having the bigger rear but at the same time it is very tactile at that bottom end. It might be worth experimenting with these ideas yourself.
