Cyril Neville - Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans - In tribute to Louis Armstrong

Neville has been recording an album in tribute to Louis Armstrong and has for a long time talked about Armstorng's importance to him. When he was young he absorbed his parents’ vinyl collection that included Armstrong. “As a drummer, I was attached to Satchmo’s use of rhythm in his playing and singing from the first time I heard him,” says Neville. “So, through the years, just as others like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Bing Crosby have been influenced by him, I’ve ’borrowed’ heavily from Satchmo in forming my own singing style. I feel that his style of singing is just as impressive and as expressive as his trumpet style.” In 2015 Dr. John and Cyril Neville were presented with the ‘Louie Award’ for their dedication to preserving and promoting the cultural legacy of Armstrong by the Louis Armstrong House Museum in New York.
