7 Books That Feel Like Old Friends (For Cozy Autumn Evenings)

Join my free newsletter & The Reading Room Book Club: https://benjaminlairdbooks.substack.com Some books are more than great stories. They become old friends. A subscriber named Wendy recently asked whether I had any literary "old friends" to recommend for the long autumn evenings. It was such a lovely question that I decided to share seven classic books I find myself returning to again and again. From Sherlock Holmes and the magical world of Narnia to Mary Shelley's *Frankenstein*, Shakespeare, Dickens, and the poetry of Robert Frost, these are books that have accompanied me through different chapters of my life. Some are comforting, others dark and unsettling, but all carry memories and associations that make returning to them a special pleasure.
