On the night of October 8, 1871, a fire destroyed a Wisconsin town. The same night, Chicago burned. Chicago is the fire everyone knows. The Wisconsin fire is far less famous. This video visits ten Wisconsin towns with stories worth the drive: a boulder that landed in a bedroom, a priest who built shrines out of stone, granite that ended up in a president's tomb, and a hotel room tied to the Bible in your hotel drawer. We count down from ten to one, and number one is the town from that October night. Which of these stories surprised you most? Tell us in the comments. If you know a Wisconsin town with a story that deserves a video, name it. HOW WE CHECKED Every town was checked against state history pages, National Register records, town and museum sites, news reports and census counts. Where a story is only a legend, the video says so. Where sources disagree, the video says that too. Populations are rounded. Opening hours and prices change, so check each place before you go.
