My Cargo Ship’s First Major Upgrade—Inside a Mekong Delta Shipyard

This was the first upgrade for my new cargo ship. Although she has been working well, there are still many details I want to improve little by little as I learn more about the vessel. This time, I hired the welders to install a water deflector in front of the propeller. Its purpose is to help reduce turbulence around the propeller, improve efficiency, and hopefully make the ship use less fuel during long journeys. There are still many more improvements I would like to make in the future. However, because my budget is limited and cargo is moving more slowly during the rainy season, I have to complete the upgrades one step at a time. While I was there, I also took the opportunity to show you this local shipyard. They build steel cargo boats with capacities of around 50 to 100 tons. It is not a large shipyard, but I was impressed by how organized it was. The workers use cranes and lifting equipment for heavy steel instead of carrying everything by hand, making the work safer and more efficient. The welders worked carefully and enthusiastically on my ship, and by about 1:30 PM, the first upgrade was complete. The total cost for this work was 150 USD. Every improvement, no matter how small, helps prepare my ship for many more journeys along the rivers of the Mekong Delta.
