Krithi: Chethulara Shringaramu Ragam: Bhairavi Thalam: Adi Composer: Thyagaraja Vocal: Thirukovilur Sisters ( S Alamelu Arjunan - S Pushpa ) Thirukovilur Sisters, S. Alamelu and S. Pushpa, hail from a distinguished Carnatic music lineage linked to Saint Thyagaraja. Their father, V. Subramanya Dikshidar (1888–1978) was a revered Carnatic music teacher and musician from Thirukovilur. He studied under Thiru Naina Pillai for ten years and mastered the art of Carnatic music. In 1935, he established the Saraswathi Sangeetha Paada Saalai to teach music and promote it widely. He also played a significant role in encouraging women to perform in public, breaking social barriers. Known for hosting events and mobile concerts, he trained many students, including his daughters S Alamelu and S Pushpa , the Thirukovilur Sisters and contributed immensely to Carnatic music's growth. The sisters became prominent vocalists and helped to widely popularize the art form. Subramanya Dikshidar also empowered other women musicians during a conservative era by encouraging their performances. The sisters are recognized for their devotion to traditional Carnatic music and their role in keeping the heritage alive.
