Making a 1900s Working Class Kebaya | Dutch East Indies (Now Indonesia)

What started as a quick browse of the Rijksmuseum's online collection turned into reverse-engineering a working-class kebaya from a 1900s Dutch colonial postcard. In this video, I recreate a simple, shoulder-seam-less kebaya from the Priangan (Parahyangan) region of West Java, using archival postcards, a 1938 garment manual, and field photographs of women wearing them in everyday life. The whole thing is deceptively simple to cut, until you realize there's no shoulder seam to hide a single drift in the grain.
