On October 26, Apple said it is aware of an issue with the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. The same day, shares of Fine M-Tec, a Korean hinge-part maker reported to supply the iPhone Duo, fell 15.7% as the company said the quality issue was not caused by defects in its parts.
This video looks at the iPhone Duo screen crack reports, what the iFixit teardown found inside the iPhone Duo hinge, how the hinge supply chain reportedly changed before launch (Amphenol, then Shin Zu Shing), and why a supplier's stock fell before anyone knew the cause. We also compare Apple's response with Antennagate, Bendgate and the butterfly keyboard.

What is confirmed and what is not:
Apple confirmed an issue affecting "a small number" of iPhone Duo units and offers replacements through AppleCare. Apple has not given a cause, a count, or said whether a fix is planned.
iFixit's hinge findings are possibilities based on a 3D model, patents and CT scans, not a confirmed cause.
Some circulating crack photos were reported to be AI-generated (MacRumors).
Fine M-Tec as an iPhone Duo backplate supplier comes from Korean press reports. Apple has not confirmed its suppliers, and Fine M-Tec's statement did not name Apple or the iPhone Duo. There is no public evidence linking any cracked screen to its parts.
The Amphenol-to-Shin Zu Shing hinge supplier switch, "golden samples", the 6 million parts outlook (ZDNet Korea, industry sources) and the ~60% assembly yield (one supply-chain report) are unconfirmed reporting.
Hanyang Securities' figures are analyst forecasts made in September 2026.
