It reaches the Arch of Constantine and Piazza del Colosseo, passes the Colosseum, and turns up Via Claudia, ending partway up the hill. FILMING DETAILS Date: Saturday 26 September 2026 Time: around midday Weather: sunny, clear sky Temperature: about 23°C Route: Casina del Salvi, Clivo di Scauro, Arch of Constantine, Colosseum, Via Claudia Audio: real ambient stereo, recorded in-camera. No music, no narration. NOTES FROM THE WALK The Casina del Salvi was built in 1835 for Pope Gregory XVI, designed by Gaspare Salvi as a coffee house for the archaeological promenade on the Celio. The Clivo di Scauro follows the ancient Clivus Scauri, a Roman road dating back to the 2nd century BC. The arches over the lane are buttresses of the Basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo, first needed after 5th-century damage and mostly rebuilt in the Middle Ages. The basilica wall along the lane swallowed the facade of an ancient Roman apartment block, and its arched portico and upper windows are still visible. The Arch of Constantine was dedicated in 315 AD, and much of its sculpture was taken from earlier monuments.
