RARE 111 - MIX 033 - SHANTI

RARE 111 - MIX 033 - SHANTI Shanti is a Chicago-based DJ who explores philosophical themes of existential angst and ambiguity. Her sets weave a story of the simultaneous despair and yearning that are intertwined with the human condition. Shanti curates deep, haunted, and atmospheric soundscapes within and outside of the realms of techno, industrial, and ambient music. "I am deeply impacted by seasonal transitions - as we are experiencing an ephemeral state of nature. I feel a heaviness and sense of dread knowing what’s to come. This ephemerality is inevitable and happens every year but it is a reminder of the profound sadness that comes with the impermanence of that which we love. My mix for RARE111 is an expression of that dread and deep despair amidst the beauty of nature’s unraveling. I also wanted to take this opportunity to be cathartic, explosive, and unapologetically rageful (at times). I think there are limited opportunities to express rage, especially as a woman, so music has been a healthy way of grappling and articulating that rage. My heart gravitates towards music that is dark, uncanny, atmospheric, and avant-garde mirroring my inner turmoil and wonder. But it can be overwhelming to always be in a heightened emotional state so there are moments of calmness and neutrality in my mix. My mix concludes on a more pensive and introspective note as I invite listeners to engage in reflection contrasting the aggressive beginning." - Shanti TRACKLIST Mass Ejection – Igneous Metallurgy Perc & Randomer – Breezeblock (Perc Edit) Nemesis – Time Does Not Return Lakej – Velvet Morning Oxygeno – Unpunished VSK – The Evil Speech (Original Mix) Regis – Untitled.
