Men & Women Are Garments To One Another. In his khutbah, Shiekh Mateen Sabree reflected on Allah’s beautiful description of the marital relationship found in the Qur’an: “They are garments for you, and you are garments for them” (Qur’an 2:187). He explained that this profound metaphor illustrates the intimacy, protection, comfort, dignity, and mutual support that husbands and wives are meant to provide for one another. The Shiekh emphasized that while Islam recognizes the inherent equality of men and women in their spiritual worth before Allah, it also acknowledges that they have been created with distinct characteristics, strengths, and complementary roles. Rather than viewing these differences as a source of competition or conflict, Muslims should recognize them as part of Allah’s divine wisdom, designed to foster cooperation, balance, and harmony within the family.
