9.30.26 This is the first time I’ve visited M15 at the communication/cell tower this season. This tower has been used starting many seasons ago by M15, Harriet and F23 as a sentry (look out) perch but they have never built an alternate nest there. I saw both M15 and the female there. This is the same female M15 has been seen with since last spring. Each brought a stick to a nest they appear to be building on the top level/level 4 of the tower. M arrived first with a large stick circling several times before reaching the top on this windy evening. After landing, a smaller stick dropped through the slats. He hopped right to a higher spot before launching left up to the top of the aviation warning light. M15 vocalized as the female flew in with a stick of her own. She then remained in the nest while I was there and M remained atop the light.
It is early in the season and no one knows where or if eggs will be laid this season. M15 and the female are bonding as nest building is part of bonding. My hope, and I’m sure yours too, is that M15 has a successful season wherever he builds. M15, and also the female, have been seen in the nest pasture off and on. It is still M’s territory and he will watch over it even if eggs are not laid in the original nest tree.
Our eagles are protected here as all active eagle nests are and Audubon is monitoring the area just as they have been monitoring M’s original nest in the pasture and N2 in the west pasture.
We can wish for them to return to the pasture and raise their offspring here. But it is their decision and I’ve found our eagles teach us more than we could ever imagine. Trust the eagles!! 🦅🦅
