Dolmabahçe Saray, or Dolmabahçe Palace, is the ultimate Ottoman palace. Dolmabahçe Palace's history goes back to the late-1800s. The Ottoman sultan was bored of the Topkapi Palace, which his ancestors had lived in for 400 years, and demanded a new, European-style residence on the Bosphorus. The resulting debt crisis sent the Ottoman Empire into terminal decline. Today, Dolmabahçe Palace is one of Istanbul’s top tourist attractions and a must-see for anyone visiting Istanbul and Turkey.
