We’ve Been Reading Mark Wrong for 2,000 Years

For 2,000 years, the Gospel of Mark has been read as a simple record of events. What if it was never meant to be read that way at all? What if the earliest gospel is a carefully engineered literary work that hides its own ending in its opening chapters, and quietly fulfills its every promise before the final page? This documentary makes the case that Mark wrote a self-fulfilling narrative: a book that plants its own prophecies and then pays them off inside the story, from the torn heavens at the baptism to the torn veil at the cross. Judas is named as the betrayer in chapter three. The death plot is sealed before the ministry begins. The whole Passion is rehearsed, in miniature, halfway through the book. Once you see the pattern, you cannot unsee it, and you will never read Mark the same way again. Drawing on critical biblical scholarship, comparative mythology, and close literary analysis, we walk through Mark chapter by chapter and show the machine running underneath the surface.
