Vira o Tempo - Salleswave | Xaxado (Official Audio)

What if you could turn time inside out just by telling the story better? "Vira o Tempo" is a lively, ironic xaxado from the Brazilian backlands about Damião, a quiet man by a lagoon whose calm is wrecked by a neighbor's glance. After betrayal and solitude, he does not grieve: he rewrites the past, word by word, until the whole village believes his version. Was it a trick, or just love doing what love does? Sung in Brazilian Portuguese, the song is built on the brisk, stomping xaxado pulse of zabumba, fast triangle and rattling ganzá, a sweet, singing accordion that answers the voice, a seven-string guitar and a round acoustic bass. The refrain is a punchy chant sung with a second voice, like a crowd singing the lie back at him. After the second refrain the accordion takes a clearly marked solo, tender at first and then full of playful runs and one theatrical pause, before the final refrain closes the dance.
