In this introductory session, we launch our masterclass on Google's Agent Development Kit (ADK), exploring why this open-source, code-first framework is emerging alongside LangGraph as an industry standard for production AI agents. We examine the fundamental anatomy of an autonomous agent—the dynamic feedback loop connecting LLM reasoning, tool execution, and stateful memory—and break down why complex systems cannot be built with plain custom code without facing vendor lock-in and messy control-flow plumbing. You will discover Google ADK's origin story from internal tools like Agent Space and Customer Engagement Suite, inspect the architectural trade-offs between low-level control (LangGraph) and higher-level abstractions (ADK), and preview the ecosystem including the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, Agent Engine, and multi-language support (Python, Java, Go, and Kotlin/Android).
