Uh-oh, Pip is going to the doctor today and feels a little nervous. Lots of kids do, and that's okay! In this cartoon, Doc Ming and Pip show kids what happens at a check-up, so it feels less scary: why we visit the doctor, checking how tall you are and how much you weigh, the thermometer, the blood pressure cuff that gives your arm a little squeeze like a hug, listening to your heart and lungs with a stethoscope, looking in your ears, nose and throat ("Ahhh!"), and how vaccines protect you from germs. A shot can feel like a quick pinch, and it's okay to feel scared and okay to cry. Then learn Pip's brave tips! Chapters: 0:00 Pip is a little nervous 0:30 Why do we visit the doctor? 0:55 Height, weight and temperature 1:20 Heart and lungs 1:30 Ears, nose and throat 1:45 Vaccines: a quick pinch 2:10 Brave tips 2:30 Being brave 2:40 Let's remember! Pip's brave tips: 1. Hug your favorite teddy or toy 2. Look at something fun 3. Smell the flower, blow out the candle (deep breaths) 4. Hold your grown-up's hand. They're right there with you! Parents: talk about the visit a day before, bring a comfort toy, and be honest that a shot may sting for a moment. Kids trust you more when you don't say "it won't hurt." Being brave doesn't mean not being scared. It means trying anyway! For kids ages 3 to 7. Written by a health-sciences student. This video is for learning and doesn't replace advice from a doctor.
