▶ Why the first witness to the empty tomb was a woman, with every source: https://theevidenceforjesus.com/s/women Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found it empty. She stood outside crying: “They have taken my Lord away, and I don't know where they have put him.” A man asked her, “Who is it you are looking for?” She thought he was the gardener. Then Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and cried out, “Rabboni!” And she ran to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” (John 20:1–18). In that world a woman's word counted for little; the historian Josephus records a rule that women's testimony shouldn't be accepted in court, and the apostles at first called the women's report nonsense (Luke 24:11). No one inventing a story would choose her as the first witness. Then Jesus appeared to Peter, to the Twelve, to more than five hundred at once, and to James, His own brother (1 Corinthians 15:5–7). He gave His life to buy us back, He holds the keys of death, and He calls His own sheep by name (John 10:3). He knows yours. Lyrics (Whoa-oh, whoa-oh) Before the dawn I came to find You, The stone was gone, the tomb was empty, “They have taken my Lord away, And I don't know where they have put Him.” Two angels asked me why I was crying, I turned around and saw You standing, I thought You were the gardener, Then You spoke, and I knew Your voice. “Who is it you are looking for?” (Who are you looking for?) I was looking for You! Then You called my name! (Mary!) Rabboni, it's You! (It's You!) The grave is empty, You're alive, I have seen the Lord! (I have seen the Lord!) They wouldn't take a woman's word in court, They called it nonsense when she told them, But Peter saw You, then the Twelve, Five hundred, and James, Your brother too! You were dead, and now You're alive forever, You hold the keys of death and Hades, You gave Your life to buy me back, I am not my own, I belong to You! You call Your own sheep by name, And now You're calling mine! (You're calling mine!) “Mary.” (Rabboni!) I have seen the Lord.
