The Light in The Tunnel - Amos 5:18-6:14 (Jul. 5, 2026)

Ironies abound, as Amos now proceeds to let the people of Israel in on a little secret - the famous Day of the Lord, for which they have been eagerly awaiting, a day of judgment that they believe will be their deliverance and the shame of their enemies - is coming. But it won't be the light at the end of the tunnel that they think it is. In fact, the Day of the Lord will be worse for them then their enemies. But how is this possible? The Lord has been trying to tell them - their evil hearts has corrupted their worship, and now their nation dies as they vainly pamper themselves with food and drink. This sermon serves as a vivid reminder that where we park our bottoms for an hour and a half once per week matters far less than where we park our hearts for the other 166.5 hours. 0:00 - Introduction, More On Repentance 7:58 - Don't Demand Judgment When You Yourself Deserved to Be Judged (5:18-27) 17:25 - There is True Danger in a False Sense of Security (6:1-7) 26:10 - Where There is No Repentance, There is No Grace (6:8-14) 34:17 - Conclusion, The Humps We Face #gretnacovenant #sermons #repentance #grace #sanctification #worship
