EFF challenges decision to rescind recommendation of Adv Madonsela as chief evidence leader

The Economic Freedom Fighters is asking the Western Cape High Court to overturn Parliament's decision to rescind the nomination of Advocate Thandazani Madonsela, as chief evidence leader in the Phala Phala impeachment inquiry. The EFF argues that the Section 89 Committee acted unlawfully and irrationally, claiming it reversed its recommendation only after President Cyril Ramaphosa objected to Madonsela's involvement. Advocate Mfesane ka Seboto, for the EFF, says the central question is whether the committee had a lawful basis to rescind its decision when, according to the party, no material circumstances had changed. Parliament is defending the decision, insisting the committee acted within National Assembly rules, and had the power to reconsider its recommendation.
